I always feel bad when I see someone who buys something like Positive Grid's BIAS line because someone on the Guitar subreddit recommended it. I really think it would be great to have a list of recommended amp sims, effects & mixing/mastering plugins for people who are new, and a list of what to avoid. In other words, it’s everything you need to serve as the heart of a fully. I just wish it was updated more often (I'm assuming fewer people are working on it). Unwieldy as that epithet is, it manages to overlook the fact that the TA1 is also a phono preamp (MM and MC), a Bluetooth receiver (version 5, with support for AAC, AptX, and AptX HD codecs), a very nice bass-management system, and a headphone amplifier to boot. Of course, some of the older amp sims are perfectly fine (the Neural DSP Gojira is one the front page of the archive, for example, and would fall under "one of the best), so I'm glad there's still a way to access the old website.įortunately, there's a new website by one of the Honest Amp Sim Review guys. I actually feel like the best available amp sims have been released after Honest Amp Sim Reviews went down (Neural DSP Tone King & Petrucci, MixWave's Benson (seriously incredible), Audio Assault's Bulldog, Otto Audio's II II II II, STL Tones' Lasse Lambert, and some of the newer Nembrini ones), but it's great to have that archive in case there's a sale for some of the older ones. The Internet Archive is such a great resource (and I hope we never lose it). I have some more bandwidth now due to pandemic job loss and if anyone has ideas or suggestions, or if anyone wants to help moderate, I'd be happy to facilitate as best I can. That said, I did find the site useful, and although I didn't share their uncritical passion for Brainworx/Nembrini, I found that if they didn't like something, I generally didn't like it either. I had it in quotes because it was from his review on HASR. For example, when I referred to one of the sims in Archetype Nolly as "Marshally" or something similar, he replied that he didn't think that amp sounded "Marshally" at all. It was a little testy, to be honest though, and in some cases, they were just rude. That was ok with me because I was really busy at the time and didn't have much to devote to it, and they were really knowledgeable and had a much wider breadth of experience than I. I'm technically a mod on this sub because I revived it when it was dead a couple of years ago, and then the guy who worked on / ran HASR showed up and asked me to step aside so they could run the sub as an unofficial arm of that site. The ultimate stage and studio amp head, with dynamic responsiveness and breathtaking tone.Dunno what happened to that site or the guys who ran it. an amp that terrifies boutique amp builders, who are still trying to push product for three times the price that doesn’t even compare.
